THERE WILL BE NO LIBRARY SERVICES IN THE MONTH OF SEPTEMBER!
It’s that time of year again when teams must be assembled/recruited! RCI is so unique we have to go tell our story ourselves. If we don’t, the kids will think it’s a club, not a team. They won’t be told about the tournaments, They won’t know that there are no age requirements to be a coach, referee, and organizer. No one will tell them that they can earn money now!! 13 year old Jason Morefield has earned almost $5000.00 in the last 12 months from chess!!! Players need to know they can make progress towards a full scholarship as close as the University of Maryland. They can also meet any community service requirements while they play! Kids need to know that chess is the one stop shop for respect, cash, scholarships, and employment! Adults need to know too!!!
We will be attending as many open house nights and lunchtime simuls as humanly possible. This build up is all over the city and will ultimately mean 22 stops per week. Our inability to cover both the schools and the libraries this year is a result of low staffing caused by weak finances. ( I was out of work for a 6 weeks this summer!? Sciatic pain!) A better understanding of the relationship between RCI and The Richmond Public Library is explained below:
NOTE:
THE RICHMOND PUBLIC LIBRARY HAS RECENTLY, “CLARIFIED” IT’S RELATIONSHIP TO RCI AS A “SPACE PROVIDER” ONLY!! CHESS IS NOT AND HAS NEVER BEEN A, “LIBRARY” PROGRAM. THE RICHMOND PUBLIC LIBRARY HAS NOT NOR WILL THEY PROVIDE ANY FORM OF IN-KIND SERVICES, HELP OR ASSISTANCE! NO SETS, CLOCKS, NO BOOKS, NO TRAINING MATERIALS, NO DEMO BOARDS, NO COACHING FEES, NO CHILDREN’S MEMBERSHIPS, NO AFFILIATION FEES, NO TOURNAMENT ENTRY FEES, NO FOOD, NO REFRESHMENTS, NO SNACKS, OR TRANSPORTATION. OVER THE LAST 2 BUDGET CYCLES THE RICHMOND PUBLIC LIBRARY HAS ASSURED RCI THAT THEY’D BEEN WORKING VERY HARD TO SECURE FUNDING TO MAKE CHESS A LIBRARY PROGRAM. THEY HAVE RAISED $0.00 IN 18 MONTHS. LOL!?
RCI HAS AND WILL CONTINUE TO PROVIDE FREE CHESS SERVICES TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC AT IT’S OWN EXPENSE WITH EQUIPMENT ASSISTANCE FROM THE VSCA AND THE VCF.
Many individuals, non-profits, private schools, school systems, school administrators, municipalities, elected and appointed officials are using similar techniques to acquire free services from concerned citizens. RCI has taken measures to be unaffected by any private, public, city, state, or federal… budgets, grants, unrealistic fiduciary promises or string a longs. As a result, this type of interruption in services will not occur again.
WANT TO HELP?
- WE NEED COACHES. VOLUNTEER AND PAYED. IF THEY PAY US, WE’LL PAY YOU. IF THEY DON’T, THEN WE WILL WORK OUT SOMETHING TO YOUR SATISFACTION. Hours vary depending on whether you are a library or a school.
2.) Help us give away a home or business security system any where in VA. We do new and replacement systems. Never any charge for equipment or installation. Even thermostats, cameras, and recorders are free! You get $100.00 for the referral and we get $300.00 for chess in Richmond. CALL ME OR HAVE THEM CALL ME 804-426-6058. We guarantee to match and exceed any written offer!!
3.) Every body wants free advice, free simuls, free classes, updated services, updated website, ideal tournament locations and conditions, low entry fees etc. Chess is cheap, not free, Say thank you with a donation once in a while. If you use any chess services that are provided by volunteers, you should be making a donation to them every year. I know that many of the people that have been getting services from RCI, the VSCA and the VCF are way overdue!!!
4.) Share as much as you can about us on social media, at your schools, churches, and other places where you meet. We will always have the lower price and the better service!!
Thanks
Mike Callaham, President
